A Glimpse into Aston's History

Aston, originally known as Northley, was one of the first townships in Pennsylvania, incorporated in 1688. The name was changed to Aston by Edward Carter, the township's constable, in remembrance of his old home in Aston, Oxfordshire, England. The township became a first-class township in 1906, and its current boundaries were established in 1945 when the northwestern portion seceded to form the borough of Chester Heights.

Throughout its history, Aston has been a site of significant events. During colonial times, Concord Road served as the main route between Chadds Ford and Chester. Notably, the Seven Stars Inn at the "Five Points" intersection was a key location during the Revolutionary War. British General Cornwallis stayed there on September 13, 1777, following the Battle of the Brandywine. The inn also played a role in various historical events, including serving as a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. Today, a veterans' memorial stands at the site, honoring all veterans from the township.
